Babies Ceramic Thermometer
and Record Chart – 1937 Advertising

In America advertising is big business and this was made believe it or not as a freebie to advertise a Spirit shop…. The idea is to give something away that would be useful and this was aimed at the new parent with a thermometer to make sure that the baby’s room was warm enough.
Made of china there is a wonderful picture of a sleeping baby which has been stuck onto the front together with details of the company.  On the bottom is a paper calendar which is missing February….. this is dated 1942
Turn it over and there is a record chart in which the proud parent

Child’s Cutlery Set

This is a very cute vintage child’s cutlery set. The box has a lovely picture of an elephant in a boat along with ducks and other animals. The inside of the box is decorated with a picture of an owl in a tree and a pixie next to a toadstool. The cutlery looks unused and is in excellent condition. The fork and spoon have a floral pattern on the handles and the knife has a blue, ‘Cath Kidston’ type handle. The cutlery is marked ‘stainless chromium plate, Sheffield, England’. I am not sure if the knife is the original one to the set as the handle is different but they look lovely together. It is all in excellent condition with some wear to the corners of the box and a small water mark on the front of the box. The box measures 7.6’’ x 3.6’’.

Dressmaking Made Easy

Wonderful old dressmaking book published by McCalls in 1928 covering all aspects of dressmaking for women of all abilities from those just starting to those with more experience.

Covering – patterns and materials, cutting and basting garments, fitting, stitches, seams, skirts, hems, openings, collars sleeves and much more.  The book is full of great step by step illustrations together with brilliant deco style women.

Written by Laura I Baldt, she was the Assistant Professor of Household Arts at Columbia University in America

This is in absolutely fabulous condition, the cover looks very contemporary with a gold background and coloured squares and it was not until I opened the book that I realised how old it was.

If you are interested in dressmaking or fashion this book is a must.
